About FICCI
Set up in 1927, FICCI is the largest and oldest Apex business organisation of India. With a nationwide membership of 500 Chambers and Business association, FICCI espouses the shared vision of Indian businesses. It has an expanding direct membership of enterprises drawn from large, medium, small and tiny segments of manufacturing, distributive trade and services.
FICCI is the rallying point for Indian and overseas businessmen and investors. It aims at promoting business and government interface, which is critical for resolving issues and for speeding up the reform process. FICCI maintains the lead as the proactive business solution-provider through research, interactions at the highest political level and global networking.
FICCI’s expert Committees and Task Forces, headed by leading Industrialists, regularly meet to discuss the current issues. These include; Agriculture and Rural Development, Banking and Finance, Consumer Durables, Ecology and Environment, Education, Energy, Entertainment, Foreign Trade, Industry, Information Technology, Internal Trade, Taxation and Corporate Laws. These interactions facilitate flow of investment in to the country, help promote international trade and render inputs for evolving and shaping policies of the government in different areas so as to make them conductive to faster growth of the economy,
FICCI has done a commendable amount of work in the field on Agriculture. FICCI has a strong and vibrant Agriculture Task Force, Chaired by Mr. P.M. Sinha, Chairman, Bata India. Over the past five years, Task Force has been working strongly on specific areas of agriculture globally competitive. FICCI has made series of Presentations on
Priority Areas for Agri Policy Reforms / Investments before the Former Prime Minister of India, Union Ministers, Former Member of Parliament, Former and present Member of Planning Commission, State Chief Ministers, Senior Government officials, Private Sector. etc.,
FICCI also has an Agri-Business Centre and allied bodies like Confederation of India Food Trade and Industry (
CIFTI ) Food Research and Analysis Centre ( FRAC ), FICCI Quality Forum (
FQF ) to promote agriculture and allied activities. CIFTI is the apex body for the body for the food industry with specialized in-house R&D facility, a laboratory, database and also provided consultancy services. To address the requirements for safety and to promote exports of Indian agri sector, FQF has taken a lead through projects for implementing
EUREPGAP standards.
